Abstract
A 4-month-old infant was admitted to our hospital due to poor sucking, frequent respiratory infection and respiratory distress.
Echocardiogram showed large perimembranous ventricular septal defect with pulmonary hypertension.
Respiratory distress was not improved with medical treatment, so open heart surgery was performed electively and ventricular septal defect was closed with dacron patch.
After operation, shw was ventilated in the ICU and vital signs were stable but ventilator weaning was difficult. Unlike other patients, her abdomen was distended severely even with gastric lavage tube drainage.
On the 4th postoperative day, we suspected H-type tracheoesophageal fistula and fistulogram on the fluoroscopy revealed H-type tracheoesophageal fistula.
Eventually, division and suture of the T-E fistula were performed and she could be weaned from the ventilator.
